Das Programm HWMonitor von CPUID, bekannt vor allem durch das Hardware-Erkennungs-Tool CPU-Z, ist in der Version 1.12 erschienen.
Mit dem Tool können Monitoring-Daten aus einer Vielzahl von Sensor-Chips ausgelesen werden (z.B. abit µ-Guru, Winbond und ITE Chips). Natürlich unterstützt das Programm auch das Auslesen der Temperatur-Dioden von Prozessoren, Grafikkarten und Festplatten. Hier die Liste der Verbesserungen gegenüber Version 1.11:

Das Freeware-Tool SpeedFan ist in einer neuen Version 4.36 erschienen. SpeedFan ermöglicht die Überwachung diverser System-Parameter wie Lüfterdrehzahlen, Temperaturen, Spannungen oder auch das Auslesen von S.M.A.R.T. Informationen. In der Hauptsache kann man mit SpeedFan aber vor allem die Drehzahlen der über ein Mainboard angeschlossenen Lüfter regeln.

Die Mozilla-Entwickler haben ein weiteres Update des Open Source Webbrowsers Firefox veröffentlicht. Die Version 3.0.4 behebt unter anderem vier als kritisch eingestufte Sicherheitslücken, so dass ein Update allen Nutzern empfohlen wird.

ATI hat sein CATALYST Grafikkarten- und Chipsatz-Treiberpaket in der Version 8.11 zum Download freigegeben. Voraussetzung für das CATALYST Control Center (CCC*) ist unter Windows XP ein installiertes Microsoft .NET Framework. ATI CrossFireX™ Enhancements

Performance Improvements
The following performance gains are noticed with this release of Catalyst™
FarCry 2 – performance gains of 3 to 10% for Single card mode and 8 to 14% in Crossfire mode, with some specific configurations showing even greater improvements. Performance gains were noticed on all Radeon HD4xxx and Radeon HD3xxx products.

GPU Caps Viewer ist ein Tool für Windows XP und Vista, mit dem man sich Informationen mit dem Schwerpunkt OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) zu seiner Grafikkarte anzeigen lassen kann. Zusätzlich können diverse OpenGL-Demos abgespielt werden und die Grafikkarte einem Stresstest unterzogen werden.

Realtek hat mit der Version 2.08 ein neues Treiberpaket für seine High Definition Audio-Codecs veröffentlicht. HDA-Soundchips aus Realteks ALC88x Serie sind z.B. auf vielen aktuellen AM2 und neuen AM2+ Mainboards anzutreffen und bieten 8-Kanal High Definition Sound.
Von der freien Brennsoftware InfraRecorder wurde die Version 0.46 veröffentlicht. Es wurden einige Fehler beseitigt und ein Willkommensbildschirm implementiert. Zudem lassen sich nun direkt mehrere Kopien einer CD oder DVD brennen. Allerdings wurden in der neuen Version die Express-Edition sowie die Unterstützung für Windows 95/98/ME entfernt.
InfraRecorder ist in zahlreichen Sprachen erhältlich, darunter auch Deutsch. Verglichen mit Nero Burning Rom ist es mit nur 3-4 MB sehr klein. Damit InfraRecorder MP3-Dateien verarbeiten kann, ist ein Plugin nötig, welches aus patentrechtlichen Gründen separat heruntergeladen werden muss. Neben der 32-Bit-Version gibt es von InfraRecorder auch eine für 64-Bit-Systeme und eine Portable-Edition für den Einsatz auf USB-Sticks.

Nach einigen Verzögerungen wurde nun die Version 0.3.7 des freien Betriebssystems ReactOS veröffentlicht.
ReactOS ist der Versuch, ein Betriebssystem zu entwickeln, das kompatibel zu Microsoft Windows ist, sodass sich Windows-Treiber und -Programme verwenden lassen. Einige Windows-Programme funktionieren auch bereits, z. B. Mozilla Firefox 2.0 und OpenOffice.org 2.0.
Das Changelog ist wie immer sehr umfangreich. Es wurden unzählige Bugs beseitigt - vor allem in den verschiedenen Kernel-Subsystemen und im Netzwerk-Stack. Ferner wurden an der Shell größere Arbeiten durchgeführt, zum Beispiel wurden viele Shell-Erweiterungen implementiert bzw. erweitert. An der Portierung auf die x86-64-Architektur wurde ebenfalls weiter gearbeitet.

TrueCrypt ist eine Open-Source-Software zur real-time OTF (on-the-fly) Verschlüsselung von Festplatten, Wechselmedien oder zur Erstellung verschlüsselter Partitionen oder versteckter Container (Hidden Volumes).
Mit TrueCrypt 6.1 wurde eine neue Version veröffentlicht, die folgende Änderungen mit sich bringt:

* Protection against memory corruption caused by certain inappropriately designed versions of some BIOSes, which prevented the pre-boot authentication component from working properly. (Windows Vista/XP/2008/2003) * During the process of creation of a hidden operating system, TrueCrypt now securely erases the entire content of the partition where the original system resides after the hidden system has been created. The user is then prompted to install a new system on the partition and encrypt it using TrueCrypt (thus the decoy system is created).
Note: Although we are not aware of any security issues (connected with decoy systems) affecting the previous versions of TrueCrypt, we have implemented this change to prevent any such undiscovered security issues (if there are any). Otherwise, in the future, a vulnerability might be discovered that could allow an attacker to find out that the TrueCrypt wizard was used in the hidden-system-creation mode (which might indicate the existence of a hidden operating system on the computer) e.g. by analyzing files, such as log files created by Windows, on the partition where the original system (of which the hidden system is a clone) resides. In addition, due to this change, it is no longer required that the paging file is disabled and hibernation prevented when creating a hidden operating system. * Many other improvements. Aus der Erfahrung der letzten Releases würden wir Usern von Produktivsystemen jedoch dazu raten mit der Installation ein paar Tage zu warten, da bisher häufig schon nach kurzer Zeit jeweils eine a-Version als Bugfix nachgeschoben wurde.
Nach längerer Pause wurde heute eine neue Version von FahMon veröffentlicht. Mit dem Programm lässt sich Folding@Home überwachen. Auch wenn die geringe Änderung der Versionsangabe anderes vermuten lässt, wurden viele Änderungen vorgenommen und der Versionsumfang erweitert.
