Der VideoLAN VLC media player - ein universeller Multiformat-Mediaplayer, der nicht nur Filme bereits anspielen kann, während sie noch heruntergeladen werden (und deshalb bei Filesharing-Freunden sehr beliebt ist), sondern auch die Möglichkeit bietet, selbst Filme ins Netz zu streamen - ist in der neuen Version 0.8.6e erschienen.
Der VLC media player unterstützt bereits von Haus aus unzählige Audio- und Video-Codecs und wird für eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Betriebssysteme bereitgestellt. ATI hat sein CATALYST Grafikkarten- und Chipsatz-Treiberpaket in der Version 8.2 zum Download freigegeben. Voraussetzung für das CATALYST Control Center (CCC*) ist unter Windows XP ein installiertes Microsoft .NET Framework. Eine aktuelle Version des .NET Framework kann man über die Microsoft Windows Update Seite beziehen.

Nach drei Betaversionen wurde am Freitag die Version 2.3.2 von FahMon freigegeben. FahMon ist ein kleines Tool, welches verschiedene Informationen zur aktuellen Work-Unit eines laufenden Folding@Home-Clients anzeigt, bspw. den Fortschritt, die voraussichtliche Berechnungsdauer und das Ablaufdatum.
Die neue Version beseitigt vor allem Fehler.

Mit dem ComputerBase ATi BIOS-Editor können BIOS-Dateien von ATI Radeon HD 3850, 3870 und 3870 X2 Grafikkarten auf eigene Gefahr eingesehen und bearbeitet werden. Durch die Veränderung der Taktraten kann man die Grafikkarte im 2D-Bereich untertakten und im 3D-Bereich übertakten.
Eine genaue Anleitung zum Auslesen und Bearbeiten des BIOS findet Ihr im Forum von ComputerBase.
Das Programm HWMonitor von CPUID, bekannt vor allem durch das Hardware-Erkennungs-Tool "CPU-Z", ist in der Version 1.07 erschienen.
Mit dem Tool können Monitoring-Daten aus einer Vielzahl von Sensor-Chips ausgelesen werden (z.B. abit µ-Guru, Winbond und ITE Chips). Natürlich unterstützt das Programm auch das Auslesen der Temperatur-Dioden von Prozessoren und Grafikkarten, S.M.A.R.T. Werte werden ebenso erfasst.
Um alle Werte auslesen zu können, muss HWMonitor mit Administratorrechten gestartet werden.

In Kürze wird die neue Version auch über die Updatefunktion des Firefox Browsers verfügbar sein.
Mit TLB Utility 1.03 hat ASRock ein Tool herausgebracht, mit dem ein BIOS-Patch gegen das Phenom Erratum 298 (TLB-Bug) unter Windows deaktiviert werden kann.
Das Tool läuft unter Windows XP und Vista und kann per Autostart eingebunden werden. Im Test bei PC-Treiber.net hat dies in Verbindung mit einem ASRock Mainboard auch den gewünschten Erfolg gebracht. Ob es auch mit anderen Mainboards funktioniert ist bislang nicht bekannt.

TrueCrypt ist eine Open-Source-Software zur real-time OTF (on-the-fly) Verschlüsselung von Festplatten, Wechselmedien oder zur Erstellung verschlüsselter Partitionen oder versteckter Container (Hidden Volumes).

XTS is faster and more secure than LRW mode (for more information on XTS mode, see the section Modes of Operation in the documentation).
Note: New volumes created by this version of TrueCrypt can be encrypted only in XTS mode. However, volumes created by previous versions of TrueCrypt can still be mounted using this version of TrueCrypt.
SHA-512 hash algorithm (replacing SHA-1, which is no longer available when creating new volumes).
