Das beliebte Diagnose-Tool CPU-Z, das zahlreiche Informationen zum verbauten Prozessor (Takt, Multiplikator, Cache, Befehlssätze uvm.) liefern kann, hat ein Update auf Version 1.51 erfahren.

Keine drei Wochen nach dem letzten Release wurde gestern die Version 2.2.2 der kostenlosen Virtualisierungssoftware VirtualBox veröffentlicht. Es wurden zahlreiche Fehler beseitigt. Außerdem wird nun die kommende Version von OS X, Codename "Snow Leopard", als Hostsystem unterstützt.

Die Entwickler des freien Windows-kompatiblen Betriebssystems ReactOS haben die Version 0.3.9 veröffentlicht. Seit der letzten Version wurden viele Fehler beseitigt, ein Schwerpunkt lag dabei beim Netzwerkstack, der nun kompatibler zu NIC-Treibern für Windows ist. Auch die grafische Oberfläche soll in der neuen Version deutlich besser funktionieren, insbesondere bei niedrigeren Farbtiefen. Darüber hinaus wurden einige Teile des Kernels optimiert, sodass einige Aufgaben nun 5x schneller abgearbeitet werden. Doch es wurden nicht nur Bugs beseitigt. Auch neue Funktionen sind zu verzeichnen. So nimmt die Sound-Unterstützung allmählich Gestalt an und erlaubt inzwischen das Abspielen von Musik mittels WinAmp. Eine weitere Änderung hat in Zeiten von Arbeitsspeichergrößen jenseits der 2 GB eher symbolischen Charakter: Die Minimalanforderungen, die ReactOS an den Arbeitsspeicher stellt, konnten auf 32 MB gesenkt werden.

Der ATI Catalyst Grafiktreiber für den Monat April wird laut Aussagen von Terry Makedon (Produktmanager Catalyst) wesentlich früher als erwartet erscheinen. Dies scheint auch nötig, da für Karten mit dem ATI Radeon HD 4890 von AMD bislang keine offiziellen Treiber mit Unterstützung des neuen Grafikchips zum Download bereitgestellt werden. Im Falle von XFX wurde laut Angaben von Tweakpc sogar vergessen, entsprechende Treiber der ATI Radeon HD 4890 beizulegen.
Abhilfe schafft in diesem Fall PowerColor, die einen Release Candidate des ATI Catalyst 9.4 - allerdings unter der Bezeichnung ATI Catalyst 9.3 - für ATI Radeon HD 4890 Karten zum Download anbieten. Um den Treiber auf anderen Karten zu benutzen, ist eine Anpassung der Inf.Datei nötig
Drei Tage nach dem letzten Release (wir berichteten) wurde FahMon erneut aktualisiert. Die Version 2.3.99.1 behebt einen Absturz. Zudem wurde die deutsche Lokalisierung verbessert.

Microsoft hat kürzlich ein neues DirectX Redist-Paket für die Offline-Installation veröffentlicht. Bereits Mitte März hatten wir das Paket gepostet, mussten die Meldung aber wieder zurückziehen, da Microsoft die März 2009 Redist versehentlich mit dem März 2008 Paket verlinkt hatte. Die nun korrigierte Version ist auf März 2009 datiert und kann für praktisch alle aktuellen Windows-Versionen verwendet werden, um die DirectX-API auf den neuesten Stand zu bringen. Im Detail:

SystemRescueCd, eine auf Gentoo basierende Linux Boot-CD, ist in der Version 1.1.7 erschienen. Mit der CD können zahlreiche Aufgaben rund um das Bearbeiten und Erstellen von Partitionen vorgenommen werden. Dabei werden zahlreiche Dateisysteme unterstützt.
Zu diesen gehören Ext2/Ext3, ReiserFS, Reiser4, XFS, JFS, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660, Samba und NFS.
