Capture words via mouse: If you are using a dictionary software, you may want to use your mouse to capture words inside a PDF file and has it translated. You can turn on this feature by checking "Screen word-capturing" option under "Edit">"Preference">"General".
Search PDF in another way: Now you can search a string either in a single PDF file or in multiple PDF files under a specified folder. When the search finishes, all occurrences will be listed in a tree view, allowing you to quickly preview the contexts and jump to specific locations.
Minimize Foxit Reader to the system tray: You now can save space on your task bar by minimizing the Foxit Reader to system tray. This feature can be turned on by checking "Minimize to system tray" option under "Edit">"Preference">"General".
Work with friendly bookmarks: Now when you navigate through the PDF document, the highlighted bookmark item will automatically be kept in sync with the current page being displayed. And you can click on a handle to hide or show the bookmark panel.
Remove all evaluation marks at once: For trial users, Foxit Reader will stamp evaluation marks on edited pages. After they purchase and install licenses, they can choose "Help">"Remove Evaluation Marks" to remove all the evaluation marks on this file at once.
View PDF page size: Now the actual size of each PDF page is displayed on the status bar.
Select text easily: Now, when you click and drag your mouse to select some text, you can keep moving your mouse and Foxit Reader will scroll automatically. This will allow you to select text out of current view. Version 2.2 also fixes some bugs of the text selection tool in the previous version.

Realtek hat mit der Version 1.78 ein neues Treiberpaket für seine High Definition Audio-Codecs veröffentlicht. HDA-Soundchips aus Realteks ALC88x Serie sind z.B. auf vielen aktuellen Sockel 939 oder AM2 Mainboards anzutreffen und bieten 8-Kanal High Definition Sound.

Mit der Version 2.30.1 wurde ein Update für das RightMark CPU Clock Utility veröffentlicht, welches sich zur automatischen Anpassung der Taktrate von CPUs verwenden lässt.
Das Tool erlaubt u.a. für jeden Multiplikator das freie Einstellen einer Corespannung und über Profile gesteuert die dynamische Anpassung der Taktrate. Damit lässt sich besonders bei Notebooks im Akkubetrieb Strom sparen und die Temperatur senken, aber auch Desktop-PCs profitieren von niedrigeren Temperaturen und minimiertem Verbrauch.

Das Freeware-Tool SpeedFan ist in einer neuen Version 4.33 erschienen. SpeedFan ermöglicht die Überwachung diverser System-Parameter wie Lüfterdrehzahlen, Temperaturen, Spannungen oder auch das Auslesen von S.M.A.R.T. Informationen. In der Hauptsache kann man mit SpeedFan aber vor allem die Drehzahlen der über ein Mainboard angeschlossenen Lüfter regeln.

Im Oktober des letzten Jahres veröffentlichte die Mozilla Foundation mit Firefox 2.0 ein neues Major-Release des Open Source Webbrowsers (wir berichteten). Nun steht mit der Version 2.0.0.7 ein neues Update zum Download bereit.

Offizieller Starttermin für OpenOffice 2.3.0 ist der morgige Montag, allerdings ist die Version bereits auf den Servern verfügbar.
Release Notes sind noch nicht verfügbar. OpenOffice konnte Anfang letzter Woche aber mit IBM bereits einen weiteren prominenten Partner vermelden, der sich an der Entwicklung des Projektes beteiligen will. Unter anderem soll Code von Lotus Notes in OpenOffice.org einfließen.
AMD hat den proprietären Grafiktreiber für Linux in der Version 8.41.7 herausgebracht und unterstützt mit diesem nun auch die Grafikkarten der ATI Radeon HD 2000 Serie.
Mit dem Treiber soll vor allem die OpenGL Performance signifikant gesteigert werden, die kompletten Release Notes findet Ihr hier.
Diese Treiberversion ist allerdings nicht kompatibel zu Karten mit ATI Radeon X1900 und früheren Grafikchips.
Von dem alternativen Betriebssystem ReactOS wurde heute die Version 0.3.3 veröffentlicht. Das Projekt steckt zwar weiter in der Alphaphase, hat aber gegenüber den letzten Releases deutlich an Stabilität zugelegt und bietet zudem eine breitere Hardwareunterstützung. Mangelnde Stabilität ist auch der Grund warum die dem angepeilten zweimonatigen Releasezyklus folgend für Mai/Juni geplante Version 0.3.2 übersprungen wurde.
Neben einem wieder sehr umfangreichen Changelog gab es auch auf organisatorischer Ebene Veränderungen. So wurde das Pendant zu DirectX offiziell auf den Namen ReactX getauft. Viel wichtiger dürfte jedoch sein, dass der Chef-Kernelentwickler Alex Ionescu das Projekt verlassen hat. Er hat nicht nur einen Job bei Apple angenommen, sondern wurde außerdem von David Solomon als Nachfolger von Mark Russinovich, welcher seit dem Aufkauf seiner Firma durch Microsoft für die Redmonder arbeitet, für die David Solomon Expert Seminars angeheuert. Eigenen Angaben zufolge hat Alex Ionescu bei ReactOS all seine Ziele erreicht und hätte bei den verbliebenen Baustellen mangels entsprechenden Wissens ohnehin nur wenig helfen können.
Der Kernel ist nun weitgehend kompatibel zu Windows NT 5, also zu Windows 2000, XP und 2003. Dadurch treten verstärkt Kompatibilitätsbugs im Rest des Systems zu Tage, sodass sich die Entwicklung allmählich stärker auf diese Bereiche konzentriert. Das Win32-Subsystem wird einer Generalüberholung unterzogen, deren Ziel es ist die Stabilität und vor allem die Kompatibilität zu Anwendungen entscheidend zu verbessern. Die Entwickler sprechen gar von einer hundertprozentigen Kompatibilität zu Windows NT 5. Erstmals in einer funktionsfähigen Form enthalten ist "Download!", eine Art Paketmanager mit dem sich OpenSource- und Shareware-Anwendungen herunterladen und installieren lassen. Die Programme werden dabei nicht wie bei den Linux-Paketmanagern von sogenannten Repositories geladen, sondern von den jeweiligen Webseiten. Natürlich gab es noch viele weitere Veränderungen, u. a. bei der Systemsteuerung, beim DirectDraw-Pendant und bei der Schriftdarstellung. Das komplette Changelog ist hier zu finden.
Ausblick
Das nächste größere Release 0.4 ist für 2008 geplant und soll das Ende der Alphaphase einläuten. Bis dahin werden noch einige weitere Minor-Releases als Version 0.3.x veröffentlicht werden.
Wer ReactOS einmal selbst ausprobieren möchte, sollte sich folgenden Hinweis zu Herzen nehmen:
Bitte beachten Sie, dass sich ReactOS 0.3.3 noch in der alpha-Phase befindet und es derzeit nicht empfehlenswert ist, es für die tägliche Arbeit zu verwenden.
Vom beliebten Folding@Home-Monitoring-Tool FahMon wurde gestern die Version 2.3.0 veröffentlicht. Es wurden vor allem Bugs beseitigt. Des Weiteren wurde das Tool internationalisiert und bringt nun Sprachdateien für Britisches Englisch, Französisch, Polnisch, Portugiesisch, Russisch und Schwedisch mit. Erstmals werden Installationspakete für Windows und verschiedene Linux-Distributionen angeboten.

Adapted asynchronous client detection to work with updated timezone conversion system. Asynchronous clients should no longer appear "hung" when "ignore asynchronous clocks" is enabled. This has the potential to display the state incorrectly for clients having very long frame times (close to 1 day). For the most accurate state detection, client clocks should be as in-sync as possible (use NTP).
Fixed some items on the preferences dialog that didn't automatically refresh the client list when the preferences were applied/saved.
The information panel now shows the full PRCG data for the current client (if readable).
The "effective" rate can now be used to calculate ETA and PPD. This bases the frame times on the total running time of the WU since it was downloaded, thus takes into account times when the client was not actually processing the WU.
Fixed bug which caused incorrect sorting by PPD when there were stopped clients in the list.
Double clicking on clients will open the folder containing that client.
Altered WU information panel to show deadlines as days, hours, minutes to match the ETA display.
Improved instance handling to raise the previous instance instead of producing a warning message. Uses DDE on Win32 and Unix sockets on Unix.
Made log processing routines more robust to cope with messy lines in FAHlog.txt created by the Windows SMP client.
Source package now contains all files necessary to build on Linux, MS Windows and OSX. However, they are only guaranteed to compile sucessfully on Linux. MS Windows can be made to work, OSX is unknown at this point.
FahMon is now internationalised, and comes with translations for: British English, French, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Swedish.
ATI hat sein CATALYST Grafikkarten- und Chipsatz-Treiberpaket in der Version 7.9 zum Download freigegeben. This release of Catalyst™ introduces the Avivo Video Converter for the Windows Vista (64 bit) operating system. The Avivo Video Converter is a transcoder tool that provides a quick and easy way of converting videos from one format to another. The Avivo Video Converter found within the Catalyst™ Control Center, allows the user to select the input file, and output format, along with the quality level and file location. The Avivo. Video Converter accepts a wide variety of file formats as a source, and outputs to file formats such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4/DivX, WMA, H.264/AVC and more.
Catalyst Control Center: Color Temperature Control
This release of Catalyst™ introduces Color Temperature Control within the Catalyst Control Center, allowing users to adjust the chromatic level shown on their display. Supported on the ATI Radeon™ X1000 Series and Radeon™ HD 2000 Series of products.

Half-Life 2: Episode 1 performance improves at most 9% on ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT CrossFire™ and as much as 6% on the ATI Radeon™ HD2400XT CrossFire™ configurations.
Serious Sam 2 performance improves up to 46% on the ATI Radeon™ HD2400XT CrossFire™ and up to 27% on the ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT single card and CrossFire™ configurations with Anti-Aliasing enabled.
Quake 4 performance with Anti-Aliasing improves 9% or more on the ATI Radeon™ X1600/X1650Pro and ATI Radeon™ X1300/X1550 products in both single and CrossFire™ configurations.

Realtek hat mit der Version 1.76 ein neues Treiberpaket für seine High Definition Audio-Codecs veröffentlicht. HDA-Soundchips aus Realteks ALC88x Serie sind z.B. auf vielen aktuellen Sockel 939 oder AM2 Mainboards anzutreffen und bieten 8-Kanal High Definition Sound.
Die SystemRescueCd ist in der Version 0.3.8 erschienen. Die Distribution basiert auf der Gentoo Live CD und bietet Tools zur Partitionierung und Datenwiederherstellung.

We have to admit, it was delayed a few times, mostly because we always had some new feature we wanted to implement in mind, but now it's finally here: we're proud to announce the availability of Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.5. This new version features a lot of improved detection mechanisms (which in parts were already made available through the regular 1.4 updates in the past months), improved Operating System support (Windows Vista integration, restored support for Windows 95, more compatibility with Wine, support for bootable Windows CDs), improved browser support (e.g. for immunization) and much more - you can find an overview of noticable changes and some screenshots here.

Mit der Version 1.5.0 unterstützt VirtualBox nun auch die 64-Bit Versionen von Microsoft Windows als Host-System, eine komplettes Changelog findet Ihr hier.
VirtualBox Personal steht unter der Use and Evaluation License (PUEL), die einen Gebrauch von Privatpersonen, sowie zu Testzwecken kostenfrei gestattet. Eine VirtualBox Open Source Edition (OSE) ist allerdings ebenfalls erhältlich, allerdings fehlen dieser einige Eigenschaften (Versionen).
Das RightMark CPU Clock Utility, welches sich zur automatischen Anpassung der Taktrate von CPUs verwenden lässt, ist in einer aktualisierten Version veröffentlicht worden.
Das Tool erlaubt u.a. für jeden Multiplikator das freie Einstellen einer Corespannung und über Profile gesteuert die dynamische Anpassung der Taktrate. Damit lässt sich besonders bei Notebooks im Akkubetrieb Strom sparen und die Temperatur senken, aber auch Desktop-PCs profitieren von niedrigeren Temperaturen und minimiertem Verbrauch.
